Breakfast Cereal Diet

December 7th, 2005 by Kyle at 12:06 pm

I can’t keep track of diet fads, but Nicole turned me onto the idea of eating two high fibre bowls of cereal a day then a standard dinner, which for me involves booze, various meats, sauces, and cheese.

I guess there was some study done that said it worked as a crash diet. I’m more interested in eating cereal all day long, because I really love cereal. Aside from it’s aesthetics and the pleasant sound of a cereal crunch, I like to eat it.

Special K ( you know, the one that makes you look slender in a bathing suit on a cruise ship with Kathy Lee) is apparently the prefered brand, and the study was *shock shock* funded by Kelloggs. Still, I don’t doubt it, if you need to fit into a wedding dress like me, it would probably work well. Me, I’m going for the “snowboarding lots” diet myself.

snowboarding does burn the calories

December 1st, 2005 by Nicki Finn at 10:02 am

Yes, Kyle, I tend to agree that snowboarding kicks ass, and the wallet. We have to find some off trails or something. Also, what about the beers that accompany boarding? Is sobriety boarding the new way?
Additionally Mr. Ritter, you need to buy a board pronto…This cannot be another idea that gets lost with cat sweaters and Barfly Scions. Because you know why? I am going boarding this Saturday evening.
If it burns like 450 per hour and only if we go for 2-3 hours a night than we are musicians, thustly rocking.
Lastly, perhaps you could find out how many calories skiing burns, I bet you Betsy prefers skiing over snowboarding, if she likes it at all.

Snowboarding for Exercise

November 30th, 2005 by Kyle at 3:23 pm

I hate going to the gym and I don’t like playing sports. Jogging utterly bores me.

So what is a desk jockey like myself to do to lose some weight and get some exercise?

Snowboarding, goddammit. I use to be a regular season pass holding snowboarder. After I broke my leg, I only went a few times a year. It’s time to get back into it.

I have read estimates that suggest one hour of snowboarding burns approximately 450 calories. In addition to this caloric burn rate, it works tons of muscles in your body.

Some of the muscles that take a beating are your calves, hamstrings, quads, abs, and back. If I can lose 15 lbs by going up to the mountain 3 times a week, for even 3 hours, that will rock my world.

The first few days up of any season are going to leave you sore, stiff, and feeling a bit worked over for a few days. Lets do it, rockstars.

postponing our challenge

November 30th, 2005 by Nicki Finn at 10:12 am

Hi all-
I spoke with Niki last night and she expressed the desire to start our challenge after the holidays-I guess she has gained 4 pounds. I myself truly suck, but I just started working out again last week. My goal is to burn 500 calories 5-6 days a week. That’s tough! That requires 35 minutes on the elliptical and another 25 on the treadmill-fast walking. I have also been trying to do yoga one night a week.
So, who ever’s down, I ‘m willing to postpone as well. But I am going to keep exercising so I don’t feel like a big fat slug that watches Comcast “On Demand” all night.

Monitoring My Caloric Intake

November 23rd, 2005 by Kyle at 1:21 pm

I’ve been really bad about watching my caloric intake. I really don’t think I eat enough during the day, and then binge at night. All in all, it’s pretty nasty. My excercise levels have gone way down too. Maybe next year I’ll buy a portable pool or something to get my laps in.
